President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Sergei Naryshkin, head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Major General Abbas Kamel, head of General Intelligence.

They discussed the developments in the regional situation, most notably ways to achieve stability in the Middle East in light of the crisis in the Gaza Strip, and the escalation of regional tension, in addition to addressing a number of African issues, anti-terrorism files, and developments in the international situation, especially in Ukraine and Afghanistan, official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic Ahmed Famhy said.

The official spokesman added that the meeting focused on the Egyptian efforts to calm the situation in the region through communication with all parties, in addition to affirming Egypt’s vision of the necessity of an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the provision of humanitarian aid in sufficient quantities, as this is the basic step to defuse regional tension.

The meeting also tackled the importance of reaching a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, and establishing the Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East.
