The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat, in southern Cairo, received Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Assi, President of the Association of Islamic Universities and Secretary-General of the Muslim World League, and the accompanying delegation, on the sidelines of his current official visit to Egypt.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the NMEC, welcomed the visitors and gave them an overview of the museum’s unique location, its history, and its cultural and societal role.
He presented the President of the Association of Islamic Universities with a catalog of the royal mummies, which are considered the icon of the museum’s exhibits, as a souvenir presented by the museum.
Dr. Sayed Abu Al-Fadl, supervisor of the Central Exhibition Hall of the Royal Mummies, also accompanied the visitors on a tour of the museum’s various exhibition halls and gave them a comprehensive explanation of the museum and the treasures it contains that tell the history of Egypt across different historical eras.
The tour included a visit to the area overlooking Lake Ain al-Hayat, and the ancient dye house dating back to the Fatimid era.
At the end of the tour, Sheikh Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Assi expressed his happiness with this visit and his admiration for the museum as a cultural beacon that bears witness to the uniqueness of Egyptian civilization throughout the ages, through its exhibits that express the three monotheistic religions, Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.
He added that collectibles of the NMEC reflect history of tolerance that has excelled.
Al-Assi expressed his admiration for the unique location of the museum, and the unique artifacts it contains, especially the exhibits in the central exhibition hall, including the “Mehmal,” which dates back to the era of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II, and the covering of the Holy Kaaba, “the Gate of Repentance,” which is the last covering that came out of Egypt during the era of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1962 AD.
