Planning:  Egypt Achieves Self-Sufficiency of Natural Gas

Egypt has succeeded in achieving self-sufficiency in natural gas within 8 years as a result of implementing several projects.

A report authored by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development indicated that natural gas has been delivered to more than 7.3 million housing units, and service is currently being delivered to about 1.2 million housing units annually.

The report indicated that natural gas was delivered to 229 new areas within the framework of the national project to deliver natural gas to homes, in addition to replacing and converting cars to run with natural gas, as the establishment of car refueling stations with natural gas was expanded, as the number of stations reached 850, and 437 were converted. Natural gas self-sufficiency was achieved in 2018, with production from the Zohr field reaching about 1.2 billion cubic feet per day.
