The producer for the “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel, Jerry Bruckheimer said he would "love" to see Johnny Depp again on set, hinting that Depp could return to participate in the 6th season.
Bruckheimer spoke about the film while on the red carpet at the Academy Awards on Sunday when he confirmed they were working on the sequel, then was asked if he thought Depp would return as the main character as Captain Jack Sparrow.
It comes after Depp's agent previously mentioned that the actor lost $22.5 million he would have earned from Pirates of the Caribbean 6 following his ex-wife Amber Heard's domestic violence allegations.
“We’ll see. I would love it. I would love to have him in the movie – that’s all that I can tell you,” Bruckheimer said when asked about Depp’s possible return.
Reports had indicated that Depp had been removed from the film after Amber Heard, his ex-wife, wrote an article in 2018 for The Washington Post, alleging that she was a victim of physical and sexual violence.
Producer Jack Whigham gave evidence in the couple's previous defamation battle, saying that Depp had not appeared in any of the studio's films between December 2018 and October 2020.
Whigham noted that Depp had reached a $22.5 million "verbal agreement" with Disney to reprise his role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, but was then told in 2019 that the studio had decided to go in a "different direction."
However, it is now believed that Depp has been brought back into the project, according to the producer.
