First Half

The hosts started the game so fiercely as early as after only two minutes when Mo Salah drove a dangerous ball across Zimbabwe’s keeper Edmore Sibanda.

Nine minutes later, the Warriors forward Nyasha Mushekwi put a cross towards the Pharaohs’ goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy.

In the following 15 minutes, the Pharaohs gained possession, thanks to attacks from Salah and Midfielder Abdallah El-Said.

In the 37 mins, Egypt's goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy was brought into action as his save denied the warriors from getting in front.

Four minutes away from the half time whistle, Trezeguet managed to score Egypt's only goal, which was enough to secure the first three-point.

Second half

Performance of the Egyptian squad declined. In the middle of the second half, Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper Sibanda was brought into action as he saved a serious ball from the iconic Salah.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi attended the match alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino and a number of high-ranking state officials.

The seven-time title holders will play their second match against DR. Congo on Wednesday, June 26 at 22:00 CLT, while Zimbabwe will face Uganda on Wednesday, June 26 at 19:00 pm CLT.
