Polling stations in Jordan opened their doors, earlier Tuesday, for voters to choose their representatives in the 19th parliament, amid extraordinary measures due to rising COVID-19 concerns.
The polling stations opened their doors at 7:00 am (Jordan local time).
The Independent election commission imposed strict health measures in order to protect the election's supervisors and voters at the same time.
The voters will not be allowed to enter the polling stations without wearing a facemask.
Analysts and politicians expected that the alarming surge in COVID-19 could lead to one of the lowest turnouts in decades.
Jordan has taken a number of strict measures before the elections, including canceling electoral rallies in order to curb the spread of the virus.
The total number of registered candidates are 1,693, including 364 women, according to the IEC website.
