The General Secretariat of the OIC, IRCICA, and the Ministry of External Relations of Cameroun organized at the headquarters of the Institute of International Relations in Cameroun, an international conference on the"history of Islamic Scholarship and learning in Central and Western Africa", on the margin of the 50th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Yaounde.
This international conference, which extends over 3 days (31 August - 2nd September 2024) brought together a significant number of scholars, researchers, and professors to reflect on the different aspects related to the historical role played by Muslim scholars in the spread of Islam in Central and Western Africa and the current situation of Islamic scholarship in this dynamic part of the continent.
The conference also reflected on the ways to transform the shared desire to promote further the genuine values and enlightened teachings at the heart of the message of Islam, into concrete actions liable to help African countries overcome the multiple and complex challenges related to human development, peaceful coexistence, democracy-building, stabilization of volatile regions and economic progress.
The holding of this international conference in Cameroun is a further token of the commitment of the OIC to support all initiatives geared towards favoring the creation of constructive spaces of fruitful dialogue, exchange of ideas, and interaction of scholars, academicians, and civil society actors within the extended geography of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
