During the 24th Session of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission (IPHRC) at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah, H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and thanked the delegates for their participation in the 24th Session of the IPHRC.
The Secretary-General thanked Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, Chairperson of the IPHRC, and Professor Noura Al-Rashoud, Executive Director of the Secretariat of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, for their leadership and commitment. He highlighted the essential role of the IPHRC in promoting human rights, aligned with Islamic values.
Mr. Taha welcomed the finalization of the “OIC Jeddah Convention on the Rights of the Child” and stressed the importance of this year’s theme: access to medical care. He expressed concern for the Palestinians in Gaza and called for international mobilization to end the humanitarian crisis.
Finally, he expressed confidence in productive discussions and assured that the recommendations would be taken into consideration by the relevant OIC departments and Member States.
