In a major step towards combating the Coronavirus pandemic, UAE announced, on Wednesday, that it has officially registered Beijing Institute of Biological Product’s inactivated Coronavirus vaccine, according to the Sky News agency.
The decision to register the vaccine came at the request of the Chinese company Sinopharm CNBG, to express the confidence of the UAE health authorities in the safety and effectiveness of this vaccine.
The Ministry of Health, in cooperation and coordination with the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, reviewed the preliminary results of the 3rd phase trials conducted by the company, which shows that the inactivated vaccine has 86% efficacy against COVID-19 infection.
The vaccine also has a 99 % seroconversion rate of neutralizing antibodies and 100 percent effectiveness in preventing moderate and severe cases of the disease.
The data also showed that there are no concerns related to the safety of the vaccine for all recipients.
