NMEC Commemorates Holy Family's Flight to Egypt

In collaboration with Soft Power Production, the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat (NMEC) organized on Thursday, June 1, activities commemorating the annual anniversary of the Holy Family Journey Flight to Egypt, which is regarded as one of the holidays that distinguished Egypt, and its ancient church throughout history.

The event was held in the presence of a group of public figures and officials, including Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, Minister of Culture, representatives of Al-Azhar, the Dar Al Iftaa and the Church, Cardinal Nicholas Tivendenal, the Vatican’s ambassador to Egypt, and our mother Kyria Iskandar, the head of St. George’s Monastery in ancient Egypt, a number of ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries in Egypt, a group of Egyptian and foreign guests, and history and civilization lovers.

In his address, Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Museum Authority, stressed the museum’s keenness to shed light on this important occasion, which the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities attaches great importance to it.

The event featured a gallery of photos and videos in seven languages about the Great Escape and a virtual tour with virtual reality technology in order to help visitors live the historical journey from inside historical and archaeological stations that were part of the path of the Holy Family.

The celebration also witnessed honoring of a number of Egyptian and international figures who contributed to the promotion of the path of the Holy Family internally and externally.

According to Christian Church, the Holy Family traveled from Palestine to Egypt through Sinai and into the Delta, and then moved as far south to Assuit.
