Lebanese actor Nicolas Mouawad has recently joined the cast of Egyptian actor Karim Abdel Aziz's TV series “Al-Hashashin”.

Mouawad portrays Ghiyāth al-Dīn Abū al-Fatḥ ʿUmar ibn Ibrāhīm Nīsābūrī, commonly known as Omar Khayyam.

He was a Persian polymath, known for his contributions to mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, and poetry.

Khayyam was born on May 18, 1048, in Nishapur, the initial capital of the Seljuk Empire. As a scholar, he was contemporary with the rule of the Seljuk dynasty around the time of the First Crusade.

The Islamic scholar compiled astronomical tables and contributed to calendar reform and discovered a geometrical method of solving cubic equations by intersecting a parabola with a circle.

The big-budget series was set to screen last Ramadan but got postponed to Ramadan 2024 due to the tight schedule and filming time as well as the shooting taking place in several countries abroad.

Abdel Aziz is collaborating with screenwriter Abdel Rahim Kamal and director Peter Mimi on the historical project.

The project takes place in the 11th century and sees the actor playing Hassan Al-Sabbah, the founder of Al-Hashashin.

Al-Hashashin was a sect of assassins that operated between 1090 and 1275 CE.

During that time, they lived in the mountains of Persia and Syria and the covert murder of leaders who were considered enemies of the Nizārī Ismāʿīlī State.

The series will also feature Fathy Abdel Wahab, Sherif Salama, Myrna Noureldin, Yasser Ali Maher, Ahmed Kishk, Mohammed Alaa, Amir El-Masry, and Suzan Najm Aldeen.

Abdel Aziz and Mimi collaborated last Ramadan in the third season of the acclaimed TV series “El Ekhteyar” (The Choice).
