Pierpaolo Sileri, the deputy minister of health in Italy, warned of a new Coronavirus wave in autumn that could cause new 30,000 linked-COVID-19 deaths, media agencies reported on Tuesday.
He told the Italian News Agency (ANSA) that there are more than 4 million unvaccinated persons who could be in danger during the upcoming Coronavirus wave.
He added that Coronavirus is dealy as cancer, especially, amid the strong outbreak of the Delta variant in Italy that negatively impacted the unvaccinated people or persons who received a single dose of vaccines.
On Monday, Italy imposed new COVID-19 restrictions in Sicily to be the first region in the state to be shifted to the yellow status in summer.
Roberto Speranza, Italian Minister of Health commented on Sicily shifting from white zone to yellow zone, saying: "[It] is the confirmation that the virus has not yet been defeated, and that the priority is to continue to invest in the vaccine campaign and on prudent and correct behaviors by each of us.”
The coastal region reported more than 1000 new COVID-19 cases daily since the middle of August. In addition, the majority of hospital and intensive care beds are now occupied.
A few weeks ago, Italy announced the beginning of the fourth wave of Coronavirus due to the emergence of the Delta variant.
