Netflix has released the official trailer for "Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver", the second part of acclaimed director Zack Snyder’s two-part saga.
The sci-fi epic space opera is a grand fantasy adventure that follows an enigmatic young woman called Kora (played by Sofia Boutella) who is living in a peaceful colony on the outskirts of the galaxy.
She is given the task of finding warriors who can fend off an impending invasion by the despotic Regent Balisarius.
The cast also includes Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, with Charlie Hunnam and Anthony Hopkins as the voice of 'Jimmy'.
Arriving four months after the premiere of "Part One: A Child of Fire", The Scargiver will continue his epic saga, with Boutella as Kora and Hounsou as Titus and the surviving warriors preparing to sacrifice everything as they fight alongside the people of Veldt.
On the eve of their battle, as the heroes defend a once peaceful village, a newfound homeland for those who have lost their own in the fight against the Motherworld, these warriors are forced to face their pasts, and in turn, each reveal why they stand and fight.
The movie promises that amid the full force of the Realm bearing down on a burgeoning rebellion, bonds will be forged that are unbreakable, and both heroes and legends will be made.
“Rebel Moon” was initially written as one movie, but Netflix became hesitant after Snyder delivered a 172-page draft. At that length, the movie would’ve clocked around three hours.
Snyder first developed the project as a pitch for the “Star Wars” universe that pre-dated Disney’s 2012 acquisition of Lucasfilm. He refashioned it into an original property when talks with Lucasfilm didn’t advance.
He revealed at the start of 2023 that his space epic would be split into two movies. But Snyder is making four movies, sort of.
In a Vanity Fair interview, Snyder announced that each “Rebel Moon” movie is getting two separate cuts. One cut is a movie that “anyone can enjoy and watch,” and one cut will be more explicit and strictly for adults.
While "Rebel Moon: Part Two" will be out in April, Snyder — who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about his massive plans for his Star Wars-inspired universe for a November cover story, previously told the magazine that his “hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.”
“Rebel Moon” marks the latest collaboration between Snyder and Netflix following the movie “Army of the Dead”. He also released a spinoff, titled “Army of Thieves,” and is working on a sequel and anime spinoff series.
“Rebel Moon: The Scargiver” is slated to release on April 19 on Netflix.
