Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested a postponement of his trial, scheduled for today, until tomorrow.
Netanyahu's request for a pardon, submitted yesterday to the Israeli president, sparked mixed reactions among members of the ruling coalition and the opposition in Tel Aviv.
Members of the ruling coalition expressed their support for Netanyahu's pardon request, claiming that the move serves the interests of the State of Israel. Economy Minister Nir Barkat wrote in a letter to Herzog: "The interest of the State of Israel, from both the right and the left, is to end the trial against Prime Minister Netanyahu."
Meanwhile, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir linked granting a pardon to the prime minister with continuing the judicial overhaul. He said that the move is crucial for national security and for reforming the judicial system, particularly the corrupt and rotten prosecution that fabricated Netanyahu's cases. He added that there is no contradiction between the two.
