NATO to Grant Membership to Finland, Sweden

Officials said that NATO expects Finland and Sweden to apply to join the alliance “in the coming days”, and will grant the membership quickly, according to Reuters on Thursday.

A senior official told Reuters that the two countries will apply to join the alliance and will be granted the membership quickly.

According to some sources, during the ratification of the membership of the two countries, which takes a year, NATO will increase forces in northern Europe and take more military exercises.

Finnish media mentioned that the two countries might apply to join the alliance next week.

Local media said earlier that Finnish President Sauli Niinistö will say his opinion on the country’s possible membership in NATO on May 12, Prime Minister Sanna Marin
