The authorities in Bangladesh and Myanmar issued orders to hundreds of thousands of residents to evacuate their homes before a powerful cyclone, which is scheduled to hit the two countries on Sunday afternoon.

The strong cyclone is expected to cause widespread destruction, according to Bloomberg News.

The latest forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department showed that wind speeds could reach 175 kilometers per hour when Cyclone Mocha makes landfall.

The cyclone is expected to pass through an area in Bangladesh that is home to one of the largest refugee camps in the world, where there are about a million Rohingya refugees.

The World Meteorological Organization, a United Nations agency, warned of heavy rains, floods, and landslides that could affect "hundreds of thousands of the most vulnerable people in the world", including Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, and six million people in need of humanitarian assistance in Rakhine state in neighboring Myanmar.

It is noteworthy that storms are common in the region at this time of year, but Typhoon Mocha comes at a time when there is increased attention to extreme weather after parts of Asia witnessed a severe heat wave during April and May.
