The Muslim Council of Elders, led by Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed El-Tayeb of Al-Azhar, strongly condemned the Israeli forces for setting fire to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza and forcing patients and medical staff to evacuate.
The council labeled the act as a crime against humanity and a blatant violation of all international and humanitarian laws, describing it as part of the systematic destruction of the remaining healthcare infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the council called for an immediate halt to these repeated violations, warning of catastrophic humanitarian consequences that risk further civilian casualties, especially among patients, children, and women in Gaza.
The council urged the international community to act swiftly to enforce a ceasefire in Gaza and allow the entry of humanitarian aid and relief to the Palestinian people.
It reiterated its stance that achieving a just and comprehensive peace requires ending the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people, affirming their legitimate right to establish an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
