Mostafa Waziri Inaugurates Al Aqmar Mosque

Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), inaugurated c, located on al-Muizz Street, after the end of restoration works.

The inauguration ceremony of the mosque, which was commissioned by the Fatimid Caliph al-Amir bi-Ahkam Allah in 519 AH/ 1125 AD, was attended by Hisham Abdel Azizi, head of the religious sector at the Ministry of Religious Endowments; and Mofadel Mohamed Hassan, representative of Bohra community in Cairo.

In his remarks, Waziri indicated that the opening of the iconic mosque is yet another achievement of the SCA’s Islamic, Coptic, and Jewish Antiquities Sector’s efforts to restore significant archaeological edifices.

He also noted that the renovation work on the Al-Aqmar Mosque began in October 2020 and cost EGP 14 million, which was provided by the Bohra community in Cairo.

It's worth mentioning that the work included architectural restoration as well as maintenance to protect the walls of the mosque from the effects of moisture and salts.
