Morocco vs Spain in U20 World Cup Witnesses 1st Use of Green Card

The U20 World Cup witnessed a historic moment as the new green card was used for the first time during Morocco’s clash with Spain.

FIFA introduced the card on a trial basis, granting coaches the right to challenge a referee’s decision twice per match, with the support of VAR reviews.

In the 78th minute, Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi used the green card to contest a penalty awarded to Spain.

After reviewing the play, the referee overturned the decision and instead booked the Spanish player with a yellow card.

Morocco went on to claim a 2–0 victory, securing three points and topping the group.

Yassir Zabiri opened the scoring in the 54th minute before Yassine Jassim doubled the lead to seal a memorable win for the Atlas Cubs. 

Meanwhile, Brazil and Mexico drew 2–2 in the same group.
