On Tuesday, Spain’s football federation (RFEF) has appointed Montse Tome as Spain women national team's new coach after Jorge Vilda. The new decision made her the first woman to manage the side.
Tome had been Vilda’s assistant coach since 2018 and “established herself as a key player in the national team’s growth”, the RFEF said in a statement.
Terminating Vilda’s contract was the first decision made by the federation’s new board on Tuesday.
The new board was formed after the suspension of RFEF President Luis Rubiales by FIFA over his non-consensual kiss of a Spanish player after the team won the Women’s World Cup two weeks ago.
