At least 36 people have died as monsoon-season floods triggered landslides in the western Indian state of Maharashtra.

According to international reports, buildings in the Raigad district were swept away after torrential rain and flooding.

Meanwhile, the rescue operations have been disrupted by heavy downpours and foggy conditions.

The reports said that "the domestic rescuers have been recovering bodies from under debris but more people are feared missing."

"The monsoon rains have caused widespread damage and led to several evacuations," the report added.

The domestic authorities also urged on Friday the residents to stay away from floodwater and to not travel unless absolutely necessary.
