Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the “La Casa de Papel” (Money Heist) spinoff series, “Berlin”.
“Money Heist” was created by Álex Pina and tells the story of the heists through the perspective of one of the robbers, Tokyo, played by Ursula Corbero.
It also starred Álvaro Morte, Itziar Ituño, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, Esther Acebo, Enrique Arce, Rodrigo de la Serna, Darko Peric, Najwa Nimri, Hovik Keuchkerian, Luka Peros, Belén Cuesta, Fernando Cayo, Fernando Soto, Jose Manuel Poga and Mario de la Rosa.
Pina, who has an overall deal with Netflix, exec produces the series, which was originally commissioned by Spain’s Antena 3, alongside Sonia Martínez, Jesús Colmenar, Esther Martínez Lobato, and Nacho Manubens.
The prequel centers around the popular character also known as Andrés de Fonollosa (played by Pedro Alonso), the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo.
"Berlin" was created by Esther Martínez Lobato and Álex Pina. The series is scripted by David Oliva, David Barrocal, Esther Martinez Lobato, and Álex Pina.
In addition to Pedro Alonso, the cast also includes Michelle Jenner starring as Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña taking on the role of Roi, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, and Joel Sánchez as Bruce.
The spinoff offers an exploration of Berlin's backstory to a time when he was an enthusiastic and carefree thief, in stark contrast to his role as the morally complex second-in-command in the original series.
"Berlin" takes place in Paris, France, instead of Spain, raising questions about how the timeline and geographical gap will be filled.
The footage finally touches base with the characters of Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) and Raquel Murillo (Itziar Ituño).
The announcement of these two police detectives coming back to the screen to reprise their respective roles from Money Heist was made back in March 2023.
These two formidable women were widely acclaimed and loved by Money Heist fans. Raquel Murillo, who started off as an antagonist and a detective, eventually joined forces with the resistance and became the love interest of the protagonist.
This brought her into a face-to-face confrontation with her police counterpart Alicia Sierra at one point.
Sierra, on the other hand, joined the show starting from the third season as a fresh face to helm the police headquarters after a heist at the Bank of Spain, planned to rescue Rio from police custody was put into action.
She was more brutal and ambitious than Raquel ever was and eventually located the Professor’s hideout with a checkmate. Better yet — her pregnancy and terrifying work ethic made the tough detective even more formidable.
"Berlin" is set to release on Netflix on December 29. Check out the trailer of Berlin featuring the two actresses below:
