Ministry: Egypt's Budget Deficit Hits EGP 135 Bn in 3 Months

The Finance Ministry said the state's general budget deficit reached EGP 134.9 billion in the period between July and September of the 2020/21 FY (-2.1% of the GDP) compared to EGP 131.4 billion (-2.3% of the GDP) in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

In a report released on Monday, the ministry said the total revenues went up 18.4% to hit EGP 204.7 billion compared to EGP 172.9 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The report mentioned that the tax revenues jumped 14.1% to record EGP 150 billion in three months this fiscal year compared to EGP 131.5 billion in the same period of the previous year, as well as the increase in the non-tax revenues by EGP 13.2 billion to reach EGP 54.6 billion in three months compared to EGP 41.4 billion in the 2019/20 FY.

The total expenditures rose by 11% to reach EGP 336.8 billion within three months, compared with EGP 303.3 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year, the report read.

It also pointed out to an increase in spending on wages and compensation for civil servants by 5.1% to reach about EGP 78.7 billion compared to EGP 74.9 billion.
