Minister of Tourism &Antiquities Meets New Director of UNESCO Regional Office for Science in the Arab Countries

Today, Thursday, Dr. Khaled El-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, met, in his office at the ministry’s headquarters in Zamalek, with Dr. Abdel Aziz Al-Muzaini, Director of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Regional Office for Science in the Arab Countries.

Al-Muzaini has recently assumed his duties as a successor to Dr. Ghaith Fariz, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation during the coming period between Egypt and the UN organization in the field of heritage preservation and antiquities.

The minister began the meeting by welcoming Dr. Al-Muzaini and congratulating him on assuming the duties of his new position, wishing him success and an enjoyable stay in Egypt.

During the meeting, the minister referred to the official visits made by UNESCO directors to Egypt during the last period, where Audrey Azoulay, the current director of UNESCO, visited Egypt in 2021 to attend the opening of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the celebration of the royal mummies parade.

The minister also talked about a number of projects implemented in cooperation between his ministry and UNESCO, including the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, and the Nubian Museum in Aswan, in addition to a project to improve the means of display and interpretation of archaeological sites in Egypt, which aims to enhance the experience of Egyptian visitors and tourists through improving the presentation and interpretation of sites with explanatory and induction panels.

For his part, Dr. Abdel Aziz Al Muzaini expressed his gratitude for the historical relations between Egypt and UNESCO and his happiness at being chosen for this position, as the Egypt office is a pivotal office and a regional outlet for the Arab world, Africa and the world.

He also stressed the keenness of UNESCO to enhance cooperation with the Ministry in many projects and initiatives that serve both parties and to provide all necessary assistance to achieve these targets.
