Messi Wins Ballon d’Or Award for 6th Time Record

Argentine Lionel Messi beat Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo to win Ballon d’Or award for a record sixth time on Monday.

Messi topped the list followed by Virgil van Dijk (2nd), Cristiano Ronaldo (3rd), Sadio Mane (4th), and Mohamed Salah (5th)

The ceremony was held at “Théâtre du Châtelet” in Paris, France, but the Liverpool star Mo Salah did not attend the event.

In September, the Argentinian iconic player beat Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and five-time winner Cristiano Ronaldo to win the best FIFA player of the year award for a record sixth time.

Last year, Barcelona midfielder Luka Modric won the 2018 prestigious award, ending seven years of dominance by Ronaldo and Messi.

Liverpool keeper Alisson won the best goalkeeper award. “It’s a great honor. I am blessed and grateful," Alisson said after scooping the award.”

This is the first time for Messi to win this award under the name "Ballon d’Or."

In 2019, the Argentinian international won the Spanish League with Barcelona. He made thirty caps with Barca, scoring thirty goals and making nine assists. With his national team, he played ten clashes, netting five goals and making three assists.
