Argentina and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi expressed his warmest thanks to Barca's former coach Ernesto Valverde, who was sacked from his position.

On his official Twitter page, Messi wished him better luck in his upcoming post.

“Thank you for everything, mister. I’m sure you’ll do great wherever you go because besides being a great professional, you’re a magnificent person. Good luck and a big hug,” the 32-year-old star said on Tuesday.

Noteworthy, Barcelona sacked Ernesto Valverde and appointed Quique Setién as a new head coach earlier on Tuesday.

In a statement, the Spanish Club announced the appointment of Setién as a new coach to replace the 55-year-old Spanish manager.

The former Real Betis manager signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Barca as his contract will last until 30 June 2022.

“FC Barcelona and Quique Setién have reached an agreement for the latter to become first-team coach until 30 June 2022,” the statement read.

Valverde has been sacked due to the bad results as they lost the lead in their last two games against La Liga last-placed Espanyol as they were held to a 2-2 draw.

Barca also went down to a 3-2 defeat against Athletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup after they went ahead with two goals.
