Barcelona star Lionel Messi suffered on Monday a right calf injury during the Barca training session.
The Spanish club released a statement confirming his injury. The Argentine captain will not take part in the Blaugrana's upcoming two friendlies against Napoli in the USA.
"First team player Lionel Messi, who had returned from his summer break for training on Monday, withdrew from the session due to discomfort in his right leg," the statement read.
"Messi will remain in Barcelona and will now not travel to the USA for the club's tour. His availability to come back to action will be dictated by his recovery from the injury," it added.
Messi did not participate in the last friendly against Arsenal on Sunday at Camp Nou stadium, where they defeated the Gunners 2-1.
Barca will begin their adventure in La Liga against Athletic Bilbao on Friday, August 16 at 21:00 CLT.
It is worth mentioning that Messi was suspended by Conmebol, the South American Football Confederation after he claimed that the 2019 Copa America was “corrupt.”
The Argentina captain will not participate in the upcoming three friendlies with his national team against Chile, Mexico, and Germany in September, and October.
He was also fined $50,000 by Conmebol because of his comments.
