CAIRO Sept 15 (SEE ) In a press conference held at the Embassy of Sweden in Cairo, Mouhamad Keblawi, President and Founder of the Malmö Arab Film Festival in Sweden, announced the selection of Egyptian star Menna Shalaby as a member of the jury of the Feature Film Competition, which will be held during the festival's eighth edition (October 5-9).
Shalaby attended the conference and expressed her happiness with this selection, saying "The Malmö Arab Film Festival is one of the important promoters of Arab cinema in the European continent. Two years ago, I was awarded the Best Actress Award for my role in Nawara, and it is a great honor for me to be a member of the jury this year and to have the opportunity to watch the best Arab film productions at the same time."
Standing as a unique platform for the Nordic and Arab film industries, MAFF aims to screen films from different Arab countries for the foreign communities residing in Sweden that include almost 175 nationalities. The festival attracts thousands of filmmakers annually, including directors, actors, producers, and film enthusiasts from around the world.
Shalaby has won many awards throughout her career in regional and international film festivals; the Best Actress Award for her role in the film Nawara at the Egyptian Film Association Festival, the Dubai International Film Festival, Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival, Malmö Arab Film Festival and Oran Arab Film Festival in 2016. Before that, she received the Best Actress Award for her role in the film Banat West El Balad (2005) at the Egyptian Catholic Center Cinema Festival andDamascus International Film Festival. She also received the Best Actress Award for her roles in Al Saher(2001), and An El Eshq Wel Hawa (2006).
Shalaby was also named 'Best Actress' by the audience in numerous polls conducted by Arab and Egyptian newspapers and radio stations. Most recently, she was honored by Tetouan International Mediterranean Film Festival in Morocco in recognition of her astounding cinematic career in Egypt and the Arab world.
