Menna Shalaby Given Suspended Jail Sentence over Drug Charges (Video)

A Cairo criminal court issued on Thursday a one-year suspended prison sentence against actress Menna Shalaby for possessing marijuana, in addition to a 10,000 EGP fine.

According to the suspended sentence, Shalaby will not be imprisoned but I she committed a similar offence within the next three years, she would have to serve a one-year jail sentence.

On 25 November 2022, the well-known actress was arrested by Cairo International Airport's authorities for finding 12 bags of marijuana in her luggage.

Shalaby had a breakdown in front of the investigation, saying: "I do not know about these drugs, it is not mine."

Hours later, she was released on EGP 50,000 bail pending investigation, with the prosecution ordering the seized substances to be tested.

Last December, the prosecution revealed that the assigned chemical laboratory's examination of the seized substances proved that they "contained two narcotics – namely hash and cannabis – both of which fall under the Drug List I of the country's drugs law."

In this regard, the actress was charged with "possessing hash narcotic with the intent of using it without legal authorization."
