A married couple is dead in a suspected murder-suicide at a Jehovah’s Witnesses hall in Thornton on Christmas morning, authorities announced on Sunday, adding that they are investigating “suspicious devices” found at the scene.

Thornton police indicated that they received an initial report at 9 a.m. Sunday of a structure fire at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 951 Milky Way, according to media outlets.

An adult man shot his wife and killed himself after, according to the police.

The pair was former members of the Kingdom Hall congregation, Thornton police noted. Their identities will be released later by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

“The investigation is still active, witnesses being interviewed, the scene being examined,” Thornton police said on Twitter. “…Still no known threats to the Thornton community.”

Luis Sanchez lives across the street and heard two gunshots Sunday morning. He said he looked outside to see a woman lying on the ground outside.

“It’s very sad,” he said. “It’s Christmas.”
