Liverpool star Sadio Mane led his team, the last season’s champions, to a 2-0 win over Chelsea, who played ten players during the second half after the dismissal of Danish defender Andreas Christensen, in the Premier League most awaited clash.

The defending champions, were already in complete control before Chelsea defender was shown the red card on the stroke of half-time.

Christensen received a yellow card at first, before the VAR referee intervened and the Danish defender was dismissed.

Mane scored the two goals in the 50' and 54' minutes of the match, which witnessed two pivotal moments, the first when Christensen was sent off at the end of the first half (45+1'), and the second when the Brazilian goalkeeper for Liverpool, Alisson Becker, thwarted a penalty kick by Italian Jorginho.

"It was a difficult match, especially in the first half," Mane said. "The red card made things easier. We created a lot of opportunities and scored two goals. We deserved to win".

German coach Jürgen Klopp renewed his victory over his counterpart Frank Lampard after he outdid him in the two league matches last season (5-3 and 2-1), after the former England international took charge of the Blues at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season.

Chelsea coach Lampard said, "It is a disappointment because we lost three points and because we made a huge mistake in the second goal, but there are positive aspects."

"We still have time to improve things. We will restore all the players and (Brazil's newcomer) Thiago Silva will strengthen the line of defense."

This is the 23rd victory for Liverpool in the history of the two teams' confrontations in the "Premier League", compared to 20 for the Blues and 14 draws.
