The Lebanese Football Association (LFA) announced on Wednesday the appointment of Algerian coach Majid Bougherra as the new head coach of the Lebanon national team, succeeding Montenegrin manager Miodrag Radulović.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the LFA’s executive committee, following a comprehensive review of the national team’s recent performances and results.
Executive committee member Emile Roustem previously explained that the federation opted to terminate Radulović’s contract after evaluating both the team’s technical output and the challenges faced in recent competitions, as well as those anticipated in the upcoming phase.
Radulović had two spells in charge of the “Cedars,” the first running from May 2015 to January 2019, and the second beginning in December 2023 ahead of the AFC Asian Cup finals in Qatar.
Across both tenures, he led Lebanon in 24 matches, recording 11 wins, five draws, and eight defeats. His final match in charge was a loss to Sudan in the Arab Cup playoff.
The Montenegrin coach declined to comment extensively on his dismissal, telling Agence France-Presse that he would speak only after receiving official notification of the decision.
Bougherra, meanwhile, is regarded as one of Algeria’s leading coaches in recent years. He guided Algeria’s A’ national team to the Arab Cup title in 2021, earning widespread praise for his tactical approach.
He later stepped down after Algeria’s quarter-final exit in the most recent edition of the tournament, paving the way for a new chapter in his coaching career with the Lebanese national side.
