In the live-action adaptation, Johnson plays the leading role of Cassandra Webb, a Manhattan paramedic who may have clairvoyant abilities that allow her to see into the future and the interconnected spider world — Sweeney will portray Julia Carpenter, who will operate under her Spider-Woman alias.

Other characters include Anya Corazon/Araña (Isabela Merced), Mattie Franklin/Spider-Woman (Celeste O'Connor), and Ezekiel Sims (Tahar Rahim). The cast also includes Emma Roberts, Adam Scott, Zosia Mamet, and Mike Epps.

“Madame Web” is the latest chapter of Sony’s universe of Marvel Characters, following the releases of Tom Hardy’s “Venom” (2018), “Venom: Let There Be Carnage” (2021), and Jared Leto’s “Morbius” (2022).

Up next for Sony is a third “Venom” movie slated for November 8, 2024, and “Kraven the Hunter,” starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, on August 30, 2024.

“Madame Web” is Sony’s first comic book adaptation that features a woman in the lead role. It will be the longest in Sony's Spider-Man Universe with a runtime of 116 minutes. Currently, the longest film set in the universe is the original Venom film, which clocks in at 1 hour and 52 minutes long.

SJ Clarkson, who helmed Marvel’s “Jessica Jones” and “The Defenders”, directs “Madame Web” from a screenplay she co-wrote with Claire Parker.

“Madame Web” is still playing in theaters and is available for rental and purchase on digital.
