French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted in Arabic, after his country qualified for the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup.

Macron posted, on his official accounts on social media, a tweet in Arabic, in which he said: "In a world facing a series of crises, it is our duty to preserve sportsmanship, as it is a space for peoples' rapprochement around universal values."

Regarding the qualification of the French team to the second round, Macron said: "The world dances with joy after every goal you score. So, let's dance with joy together! And again, "Come on, you blue!"

Macron praised on Saturday the efforts made by the State of Qatar, which is hosting the World Cup, "to make the event a success," stressing that it "continues to do so."

"The World Cup in football is being held for the first time in the Arab region. It is witnessing tangible changes. Qatar has made outstanding efforts to make the event a success and will continue to do so. It can count on our support," Macron said on Twitter.
