Liverpool are currently targeting a £20 million move for Brighton defender Ben White as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren.

The Reds are currently searching for a new center-back, as they are preparing to sell Lovren and have been impressed with White's performances during his loan spell at Leeds.

White has emerged as one of the bright young stars of the new Championship season and was voted player of the month for August with a convincing 44 per cent of the vote.

The defender moved to Leeds on a season-long loan deal this summer and has made 11 appearances for the club so far, but The Sun reported he could soon be a Liverpool player.

Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip are currently Jurgen Klopp's first choice in the defensive line-up but it is an area of the pitch where the club currently lack depth.

With Lovren lacking in form, Klopp's other options are teenagers Ki-Jana Hoever or Sepp van den Berg, who joined the club during the summer and are still with minimal experience.

Despite leading the Premier League by eight points Liverpool have been criticized for their performances at the back.

Liverpool have operated with a higher defensive line than last season in a bid to press teams more intensely in the attacking third.

But that approach has seen them exposed in Europe, when Liverpool squashed 2-0 away at Napoli and barely survived RB Salzburg 4-3 at Anfield.
