Lightning struck the top of the "Christ the Redeemer" statue in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro, according to Pop Base.
This happened during a thunderstorm that broke out late yesterday evening, and a bolt of lightning struck the head of the statue.

This is not the first time that the statue has been struck by a lightning bolt, as it was struck in 2014 during a strong storm, and was subjected to a similar lightning bolt in February 2008, which necessitated restoration work to repair the damage to its head and fingers.
