In a televised speech to the nation this evening, the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar greeted the Libyans and all Muslims around the world on the advent of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
During his speech, the General Commander expressed his appreciation to the Libyan people for their absolute confidence in the country's armed forces who are determined to defend Libya against terrorism in all its forms.
Haftar noted that all victories achieved by the LNA could not have been made without the Libyan free people's suuport to the armed forces that, in turn, sacrificed many souls of officers and soldiers for the sake of the country's safety and sovereignty.
The LNA commander declared that the UN-brokered Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) is a part of history, saying that he has accepted the Libyan people’s mandate to rule the country.
He added that despite the heavy duty, the armed forces took upon themselves to be at the disposal of the Libyan people and to do the best to relieve their sufferings, defend their rights and create the conditions for re-building the state institutions and civil society.
In conclusion, the Field Marshal vowed that the Libyan National Army will continue its battle of liberation of Libyan soil until its end.
It is noteworthy that Haftar on Thursday urged Libyans to abandon the LPA agreement and to overthrow the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) Presidential Council. In 2015, rival Libyan parties signed the Skheirat agreement in Morocco.
He added that the council has threatened the dignity of the people, abandoned the sovereignty of the state, and destroyed its economy by employing oil revenues to support militias and bring in fighters from abroad.
Haftar added that LNA will wage a counter-attack to recapture the two cities that were seized by the GNA earlier this month.
“Sarraj’s joy will not last,” vowed Haftar.
