The Libyan army forces announced the dismantling of 5 tons of explosives from the remnants of the terrorist ISIS organization, during its occupation of Sirte.
First Lieutenant Abd al-Salam Al-Jazwi, commander of the military engineering faction of the West Sirte Liberation Operations Room, said in statements that these explosives were located inside the "Dishmah" used by the terrorist organization "ISIS" that controlled the city for nearly four years.
Al-Jazwi also added, "We found some books and flags belonging to the terrorist organization."
Al-Jawzi emphasized that the process of executing the remnants of war that was found, which includes mortar and tank shells, is the second since the military engineering faction was assigned the task, pointing to the execution of previous remnants in the Bouhadi area, west of Sirte.
The Lieutenant continued that the West Sirte Liberation Operations Room removed about 100 landmines in the region, in the interest of the safety of the Libyans.
On his part, Lt. Col. Hani Al-Fadhil, commander of the first faction of maidan Engineering, affiliated to the Military Engineering Department, said that the forces are working to collect war remnants in the Old City in Derna and the surrounding areas, in preparation for their execution in the coming days.
Al-Fadhil explained, in statements that the faction was able to collect a large group of explosives and rockets that were used by terrorist groups in Derna during the period of the Libyan army’s war against them, indicating that a warehouse was allocated for them, far from residential neighbourhoods, to place waste in it for sorting and collection.
ISIS took control of Sirte in June 2015, to become its main stronghold in North Africa, but the Libyan army announced in December 2016, officially the liberation of the city from the clutches of the terrorist organization.
The terrorist organization left mines and explosives that killed hundreds of Libyans, but the Libyan army announced in February 2020, the resumption of mines and war remnants removal work in the city, to return life to normal.
