Strasbourg head coach Liam Rosenior has all but confirmed his appointment as the new manager of Chelsea, revealing that he has reached a verbal agreement with the Premier League club and expects the deal to be finalized imminently.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Rosenior disclosed that negotiations with Chelsea are complete, with only formalities remaining before the move is made official.
“It looks like I’m going to be the next manager of that football club,” Rosenior said.
“I haven’t signed yet, but I have verbally agreed with Chelsea. Everything is agreed and it will probably go through in the next few hours.”
The 41-year-old coach traveled to London earlier this week to finalize the move, which will see him leave Strasbourg, Chelsea’s sister club under the BlueCo ownership grou, after an impressive spell in Ligue 1.
Rosenior took charge of the French side in 2024 following previous managerial roles at Hull City and Derby County.
Rosenior acknowledged the unusual nature of confirming an agreement before signing a contract, but said he felt it was important to address the situation openly out of respect for Strasbourg.
“I’m here because I care about this club,” he explained. “I felt it was right to answer your questions in person before I move on.”
Despite admitting interest from other clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League, Rosenior made it clear that the opportunity to manage Chelsea was impossible to refuse.
“I have had interest from many clubs, including Champions League clubs,” he said. “But I cannot turn down Chelsea.”
Chelsea are expected to announce Rosenior’s appointment officially once contractual paperwork is completed, potentially within the next few hours.
