Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister received Tuesday Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan Parliament who is visiting Moscow at the invitation of the Russian Duma.
During the meeting, Lavrov said that the settlement in Libya must include all major political forces and all regions of the north-African country.
Lavrov stressed that Moscow has been in contact with all Libyan political forces for years. He added that Libya is living in a calmer atmosphere in light of the ceasefire holding for a long time.
The Russian Foreign Minister noted that "the sooner post-conflict settlement is completed and normal post-conflict life begins, the quicker we will be able to resume bilateral cooperation in all areas: energy, transport infrastructure, as well as economic and investment projects in general for the benefit of our peoples."
He pointed out that Saleh’s meeting with the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord Fayez al-Sarraj, last August, played an important role in re-launching the political process. He added that this process “is still continuing and developing at a faster pace.”
He stressed the Russian side's interest in Libya's return to normal life, indicating that this would allow the resumption of cooperation in various fields, including energy, transportation, and economic and investment projects in general.
He indicated that re-launching the political process in Libya is continuing and gaining momentum, and welcomed Saleh’s effort in that regard.
