On Monday, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Brazil on an official visit to hold a meeting on economy and multipolarity, Sputnik news agency reported.
During his visit, Lavrov will meet Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, and presidential adviser on international affairs Celso Amorim.
The high-level talks are expected to focus on multipolarity and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the economic sector.
Later in the day, the Russian foreign minister will give a speech at Brazil's Rio Branco Institute and answer students' questions.
Brazil is the first stop on Lavrov's tour of several Latin American countries, which will run from April 17 to 21 and include Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba.
Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that Moscow considers Latin America a friendly region and also "one of the centers where the multipolar world is shaping up."
The ministry noted that Russia is determined to maintain a dynamic dialogue and develop constructive cooperation that "is not subjected to any dictates from the outside."
