In line with the implementation of Resolution. 8030, 145th ordinary session, C2 of 11/3/2016 of the Council of the League of Arab States, which designates Arab Cultural Heritage Day as an annual celebration, the General Secretariat (Social Affairs Sector – Department of Culture and Dialogue of Civilisations) is organising a discussion panel on Environmental Heritage and its Sustainability.

The event aims to highlight the vital link between environmental preservation and heritage conservation as a means of bridging the past and present to shape a sustainable future.

The panel held on 24 February at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Social Affairs Sector, said that the discussion panel will address a significant aspect of heritage—environmental heritage and sustainable development—as interconnected elements that contribute to the formation of resilient, culturally rich, and sustainable societies.

She underscored that viewing heritage as an integral part of cultural identity reinforces its role as a foundation for building a future rooted in sustainability principles.

As part of the event, the Arab Council of the Union of Arab Archaeologists will present a special film showcasing the heritage of Palestine.

Additionally, the General Secretariat host an artistic heritage exhibition featuring contributions from the Institute of Arab Manuscripts, the National Centre for Children's Culture at the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, and the Without Borders Association for Fine and Popular Arts in the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The celebration bring together representatives from member states of the League of Arab States, alongside Arab, regional, and international organisations, civil society institutions, and distinguished experts and researchers in the field of heritage, fostering dialogue and collaboration to safeguard cultural heritage for future generations.
