Russian President Vladimir Putin has no plans to wish his American counterpart Joe Biden a Happy New Year, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Monday.

Peskov indicated that the current level of bilateral relations between Moscow and Washington does not suppose “a time for congratulations.”

"Not now. Now we are so deep into mutual unfriendliness that there is probably no time for congratulations," he told reporters, answering a question from TASS.

The Kremlin spokesman did not clarify whether the Russian leader would congratulate the leaders of other unfriendly countries. "I can't say that for sure," he noted.

Peskov highlighted that the Kremlin press service would prepare a list of those whom Putin would congratulate.

Recently, Putin blamed the West for trying to "tear apart" Moscow, affirming that they have always tried to 'divide and conquer'.

"We are acting in the right direction, we are protecting our national interests, the interests of our citizens, of our people," he underlined, stressing that Moscow was "ready to negotiate with all participants in this process (to find) an acceptable solution" to the conflict.
