As part of ongoing efforts to deepen cultural dialogue between South Korea and Egypt, the Korean Cultural Center hosted the second edition of its monthly cultural series, “Ahlan Korea,” marking the celebration of Seollal, the Korean Lunar New Year.

The event offered attendees an engaging introduction to one of Korea’s most important traditional holidays. Activities opened with an audiovisual presentation exploring the history, customs, and symbolism of Seollal, alongside a visual tour of major tourist destinations across South Korea. The presentation highlighted Korean folklore, seasonal rituals, and New Year traditions, as well as the cultural significance of family gatherings during the holiday.

Participants then took part in traditional Korean games and experienced wearing the Hanbok, Korea’s national dress, creating a festive and interactive atmosphere that encouraged direct cultural engagement.

The program concluded with a presentation of traditional Seollal cuisine, followed by tastings that allowed guests to experience the flavors associated with the Korean New Year, offering a sensory connection to the holiday’s customs.

Speaking during the event, Oh Sung-ho, Director of the Korean Cultural Center, emphasized the strength of bilateral relations between South Korea and Egypt, noting the steady growth of cooperation in cultural and educational fields. He said initiatives such as “Ahlan Korea” play a vital role in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Organizers announced that the “Ahlan Korea” program will continue throughout 2026 in cooperation with the Korean Tourism Organization, with each monthly edition highlighting a different Korean city. The initiative aims to provide Egyptian audiences with a broad and immersive perspective on Korea’s heritage, arts, and landmarks.
