On Wednesday, Karnak Temple witnessed the solar alignment phenomenon at its main axis.
The phenomenon occurs every year on 21 December, which marks the beginning of winter.
During the event, the sun shines on the chamber of the sacred boat of Amun Ra. The sun's rays enlighten the entrances to the temple, as well as the great hall of the masters.
Hundred of visitors and tourists headed to the magnificent historical site to witness the phenomenon from the beginning.
They were received by cheerful and enjoyable traditional songs and performances before the temple.
Previously, Dr. Mostafa Al-Sagheer, Director of the Karnak Temple, explained that this phenomenon reveals how advanced the ancient Egyptians skill was in combining astronomy with architecture, and their precision in continuing with it during the 2000 years it took to build the Karnak Temple.
