The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate hosted Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the European Union Delegation to Egypt and the Arab League, on Thursday at the syndicate’s headquarters. The visit was organized in coordination with the Syndicate’s Arab and Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Mohamed El-Sayed El-Shazly, as part of efforts to expand cooperation aimed at strengthening the professional capacities of Egyptian journalists.
Discussions focused on launching joint initiatives to enhance journalistic skills through specialized training workshops and free language courses. The proposed cooperation also includes annual competitions offering incentive awards, as well as opportunities for training placements at international media institutions.
Journalists Syndicate Chairman Khaled El-Balshy welcomed Ambassador Eichhorst and her accompanying delegation, describing the visit as an important step toward supporting professional development programs within the syndicate. He noted that this was the second such meeting, reflecting a shared commitment to improving access to information and advancing journalists’ professional capabilities.
Mohamed El-Sayed El-Shazly said the visit aligns with the committee’s new strategy to open channels of cooperation with a wide range of institutions in order to provide greater support for journalists. He added that the syndicate is actively seeking partnerships with international organizations to expand training opportunities and develop professional skills in line with global standards.
For her part, Ambassador Eichhorst described the cooperation as a significant initiative that reinforces the role of the Journalists Syndicate by strengthening journalists’ skills and expanding available resources. She said the collaboration aims to address key challenges facing the profession, including digital transformation, misinformation, and limited resources, through targeted training programs and knowledge exchange between Egyptian and European media professionals.
She added that the European Union’s work in Egypt places strong emphasis on people-to-people engagement, skills development, and improving journalistic standards within a rapidly evolving media landscape.
