Japan will simplify visa application processes for Chinese citizens, aiming to enhance tourism and economic ties between the two neighboring nations, Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya announced on Wednesday.

The decision, unveiled during Iwaya's meeting in Beijing, aligns with China's recent reinstatement of visa-free entry for short-term Japanese travelers, a policy suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The move seeks to strengthen cultural and business exchanges, fostering mutual economic benefits.

Iwaya also disclosed plans for China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, to visit Japan early next year for high-level economic discussions, marking a step toward improved bilateral cooperation.

Amid diplomatic talks, Iwaya confirmed the discovery of a buoy installed by China in Japan’s exclusive economic zone near Okinawa, prompting a formal demand for its removal.

The ministers also reaffirmed a September agreement to gradually lift China’s restrictions on Japanese seafood imports following the release of treated wastewater from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.
