Israel’s Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced that the government intends to build around 2,000 new settlement units across the occupied West Bank as part of an extensive plan to expand and strengthen Israeli settlements.
According to Israel’s Channel 14, the Civil Administration under the Ministry of Defense confirmed the approval of 1,973 new housing units on Thursday, describing it as part of a broader expansion of existing construction projects.
Smotrich also revealed that since the beginning of this year, approximately 30,000 housing units have been approved in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley.
He stated that Israel will continue building and deepening its presence throughout what he described as “the Land of Israel,” adding that the government’s actions serve as the “proper response” to those questioning Israel’s right to the territory.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently rejected the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a proposal aimed at asserting control over the West Bank.
