Israel Launches Airstrikes on the City of Sweida in Southern Syria

Israel launched airstrikes on the city of Sweida in southern Syria on Tuesday, shortly after the Syrian army announced its entry.

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that "Israeli occupation aircraft are targeting the city of Sweida."

The Israeli army has not yet commented on the reports.

Israel confirmed on Monday that it had destroyed Syrian tanks in the area of tension in Sweida, while warning against targeting Druze in Syria.

The Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the army "continues to pursue outlaw groups around the city of Sweida and is continuing its operations with the aim of establishing stability and security."

Sweida Governorate has been witnessing ongoing tensions for days, culminating on Sunday with deadly clashes between Bedouin tribes and local Druze factions over mutual kidnappings.

The clashes resulted in the deaths of approximately 100 people, prompting the Syrian army and security forces to deploy units to resolve the conflict and separate the warring parties.
