Eng. Mohamed Ghanem, the spokesman for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, confirmed that the ministry is organizing awareness campaigns in the governorates and holding seminars to educate farmers about the importance of modern irrigation systems.
Ghanem noted that too much water causes fungal diseases, and on the other hand, water rationalization increases agricultural production by 30%.
He added that the problem Egypt is facing is the existence of major water challenges as a result of population growth and climatic changes that put great pressure on our limited water resources in the country.
Ghanem affirmed that the modern irrigation systems have a great economic return on the farmers themselves.
The farmers talked about a clear increase in productivity of up to 30-40%, in addition to a clear improvement in the quality of the crops produced, and reducing the use of organic fertilizers by up to 40% compared to irrigation by immersion.
